Silk is a timeless fabric that introduces a touch of luxury into any wardrobe. Whether it's a silk cami or a dress, these delicate pieces require special care to maintain their beauty and longevity so that you can wear them season after season.
How to Wash Silk:
Always check the care label on your garment for specific instructions on how to wash each individual garment. In general, hand washing is the safest method for silk. Use lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding any harsh chemicals that could damage the delicate fibers. Gently swirl the garment in the water, being careful not to wring or twist. After washing, rinse thoroughly with cool water to remove any soap residue. To dry, lay the garment flat on a clean towel and roll it up to absorb excess water, then carefully reshape the garment and hang it to air dry away from direct sunlight.
Can silk be ironed?
Yes, you can iron silk, but it requires a gentle touch and low heat. Before ironing, make sure the garment is slightly damp, either from washing or using a steam iron. Set your iron to the silk setting or the lowest heat setting, and place a thin cotton cloth or pressing cloth over the silk to protect it from direct heat.Â
Iron the garment on the reverse side to prevent any shine or damage to the fabric. Take your time and use smooth, even strokes, avoiding pressing too hard or leaving the iron in one spot for too long. Once the silk is wrinkle-free, hang it up immediately to cool and set the fabric.
